About the Founder

As a fully-licensed motor vehicle mechanic, former motor racing team manager, professional photographer by trade, and senior marketing executive for IBM PCs, James Fan, B.A.S., furthered his education at York University (Toronto, ON) with a Bachelors degree of Administrative Studies, focusing on corporate finance and international marketing. In the same year, he became an accredited individual with the elite designation of Certified Sales Professional (CSP) in Canada, and has since been an active sales professional in the business community. James is driven with a passion to pursue precision and excellence. He launched “Back Office Support Services” (B.O.S.S.) in the late 1990’s determined to aid businesses persevere through the toughest recession in recent memory.

Assuming the role of an Advisor in 2015, he began his new journey in exploring opportunities within the world of tech, predominately that of the drone/UAV market space. He progressed further, completing training at a reputable flight school in British Columbia to become a Commercial Drone Pilot under Transport Canada’s TP15263E curriculum (08/2014). He then continued to advance his skill set and broaden his knowledge of geographic information systems by enrolling in the Graduate Certificate course of GIS at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. He enjoys spending his leisure time with GIS tools such as ArcGIS, ESRI online, Civil3D and many others.

He is keen to identify the diverse challenges that businesses will inevitably confront, particularly the impact of Digital Waves and the lightning-speed technological developments in recent years. In today’s ever-evolving market, he understands that the need for razor-sharp, precisely-executed business strategies shall never diminish. Businesses are required to quickly adopt new technologies in order to grow, to prosper, and, in some cases, to stay afloat. As stated in Kim and Mauborgne’s ‘Blue Ocean Strategy’*, “Exceed expectation is an understatement, precision is the key to great sailing.” He decided to take up this challenge and start up a new division, Edsa.CA – Engineering Data Services & Analytics, to aid the Canadian design/build construction industry, which most would describe to be trailing behind at a minimum of a few years in terms of technology uptake.

*Blue Ocean is a term derived from W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne’s “Blue Ocean Strategy”, first published in 2005.
